IRELAND - FAIRY TREE

I arrived in Ireland for my 3rd ever visit on the 2nd of January to stay with very good friends of mine for the week. How time flies when you're having fun! Within the blink of an eye it was almost the end of my visit and I haven't done any Geocaching! So the initial plan was to have something hidden on Tori Hill, but oh my word! We went on the afternoon of the 6th and after fighting to get through the bushes and thorns we gave up on that idea :-( Anyway, although a beautiful location, the possibility of the cache being found on a regular basis would not be possible due to the difficult terrain - and I want my box to be found!! :-)
So the next morning we headed for the Comeragh Trail - Mahon Valley.
To find out more about this cache, please visit

WADI BIH BOX SECOND HIT

Very well done to the mbn.club who found my Wadi Bih box on the very first day of the "Bond Year"! Aparently my initial published coordinates were incorrect; some 20 meters off location according to this team :-/ Strange the first finder didnt mention anything on his log; perhaps because he knew the location well and recognised the pictures..

Anyway, this is what the mbn.club noted on the geocaching-site:
January 1 by mbn.club (3 found)
N 25° 48.487 E 056° 11.066.
Very safe location for the box, however be careful of falling rocks! Cache should not be troubled by the occasional floods unless water level rises that high. Have traded the burj magnet with a ball (golf). Found the cache some 20 meters off location, hence our (new) coordinates. Also left our mbn coin and want to see if it really travels as indicated on the back of the coin.

PS: Bond Year as in "oo7" for those who wondered...

NYC - BROOKLYN BRIDGE

During my visit to the Big Apple I decided to do 'n mini cache; something just to "keep going".. or not for the sake of it. What I was planning didn't really require any maintenance but unfortunately my cache was not approved and officially published on the geocaching site due to the extreme sensitivity to caches beneath bridges at this time. One state's authorities have contacted geocaching.com to ask that none be posted - people saw someone crawling around bridge supports, called the police to say a bomb was being planted. It was only a micro cache being hunted. Ouch!
SO, "unofficially" I'm publishing the following :D Come what may, so be it...
VERY IMPORTANT TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST! These coordinates only lead you close to the cache. Please read the complete directions.
Latitude 40.71074 Longitude -74.00332 Coordinates 40.71074, -74.00332N40°42.6444, W074°0.1992
PS: Might be a good idea to take a small mirror along, as you would not be able to see the cache from where it is hidden, however, you can feel it :D
I decided to end my 2006 on a high note by spending it in the Big Apple. A first for me as a South African living in Dubai. I didnt have a GPS, but managed to "sky" some coordinates from the internet kinda close to the cache.
The cache is hidden underneath the Brooklyn Bridge. Make your way to South street heading directly for the walkway alongside the shore. Once directly underneath the bridge, turn around having your back to the water. Pier 17 should now be on your left hand side. In front of you you'll see a bridge pillar that has black letters spray painted on the base of the concrete slab of the pillar. The pillar is made out of two metal bars with a gap inbetween. The cache is hidden in the gap on the right hand side. If you sit on this concrete slab, you can very easily reach the cache by just reaching in to the gap. What's hidden there: 7 fridge magnets of New York for 2007. Please feel free to take one. In order to keep the cache going (although I'm not expecting much from this one :-) and as a kind request, new replacement fridge magnets would be welcome.Thank you and happy 2007!
